Another One Bites the Dust! (spoilers)

The unity of our little collection of survivors on AMC's "The Walking Dead" has been splintered lately with differing opinions on just about everything from leadership, to safety, to most recently, the fate of Randall.

Enter Dale.. the (seemingly) lone voice for reason and humanity. He tried his best to sway the group away from the idea of killing Randall, but ultimately lost out to majority rule.

During this time, sweet little good boy Carl has been acting like kind of a punk. Of course he's hurting just as much as anyone else from the loss of his friend (and possibly the only other child left in the world), Sophia. It's become a harsh, cold world, and he seems to be adapting to the bleakness of it all... he seems to be giving up. It's a lot for anyone to handle, and being a child, he's clueless about processing it all... unfortunately, Carol was on the receiving end of his B.S. and it hurt her deeply.

After a FAR too easy talking to from Rick, Carl ventured out to be alone (after swiping a pistol from Darryl's saddlebags)... and finds himself face to face with a walker stuck in the bog. Let me just say that this zombie was particular creepy.. well done, FX crew!

Unfortunately, Carl decided to play a game of "how close can I get" before making an attempt to kill it. He waits too long and the walker frees himself, nearly biting Carl, who took off like a rocket back to camp.

Later in the day, it looks like the end for Randall who is begging for his life. Rick, having made the call for his death is planning to be the trigger man while his "lieutenants" Darryl and Shane stand guard. Carl enters and tells his dad to "Go ahead. Do it." Seeing the effect this post-apocalyptic world is having on his son, Rick decides to let Randall live.. in custody, which of course pisses Shane off.

The group is told the news and Andrea runs to tell Dale who will, no doubt, be very happy. But he has wandered off... at night... alone. It's then he hears the moan of a nearly dead cow... slaughtered by the undead. He turns to head back to camp and finds himself face to face with the walker with whom Carl was playing chicken earlier in the day.

It pounces, and poor Dale is pinned to the ground while the zombie chomps and bites at the air in an attempt to reach his face. Dale's only weapon, unfortunately, is a rifle slung over his shoulder. Dale's midsection is torn open savagely signaling his final moments.

Darryl enters and kills the walker as the others arrive on scene. Hershel's there, but it's too late. His wounds are far too great. He'll soon be dead...and then undead.

Rick aims his pistol, but in a surprising move, Darryl steps in and fires the single shot that ends Dale's suffering with the final words "sorry brother" — BANG!

Carl recognizes the zombie and is overcome by a horrific deluge of guilt and throws himself into his mother's arms.

And so another major character is gone as we quickly approach the end of the season. Will there be others? Will Shane try again to overthrow Rick? Will Andrea take on the role of peacemaker in Dale's place? Will we EVER find out what the doctor whispered in Rick's ear at the end of the first season??

Only one way to find out...

Rise of the Alpha Male!

The moment we all knew was coming finally arrived last night, as Shane and Rick's underlying emotions bubbled to the surface resulting in some down and dirty fisticuffs! So, what was the final straw? Randall. The young man Rick ripped from a fence, thus saving him from becoming walker chow.

Having driven him 18 miles away from the farm, Rick and Shane found a location they thought might be a safe drop off. They grabbed Randall from the back of their car (hooded and bound), dropped him off, threw him a knife and walked away....until Randall (begging for his life) blurted out that he went to school with Maggie. That made it personal. That made him "real." Rick immediately had second thoughts and he and Shane demanded he continue... to which Randall stated that Maggie didn't even know he existed. So, was he lying? Shane suggested killing Randall, and Rick wanted a night to think on it.... that's all it took.

Rick and Shane began to argue and yelled above each other until one phrase popped out of Shane's mouth and stabbed Rick in the heart... "you can't keep them safe."

Rick swung, but Shane saw it coming and answered with a headbutt knocking Rick to the ground. They struggled for several seconds before Shane picked up Rick's gun. Would he shoot Rick or Randall? For a moment I thought it would be Rick. Shane could have killed both he and Randall and made up any story he wanted...after all, it had worked with Otis. But no, it was Randall he had his sites on. He aimed but was stopped by Rick, and the fight continued.

Finally, Rick pummeled Shane to a point of submission and he stood the victor and true leader of the group. Unfortunately, Shane didn't take to losing very well and hurled a large wrench at Rick, missing him, but crashing thru a window and unleashing a previously unknown horde of undead!

Action ensued, and Shane wound up trapped in an old school bus (with only a knife to protect himself), watching as Rick and Randall ran from his line of site. The look on his face was one of horror as he believed his childhood friend was leaving him. Of course that's not Rick's style and back he came, leaning out the passenger window of their car firing his gun as Randall drove. Shane jumped from the back of the bus into the car and they were gone. An amazing rescue that left me cheering. No, seriously... I cheered. Out loud.

Eventually, Randall was bound again, and once safely in the back of the car, Rick told Shane that if he really wanted to kill him, he'd have to do better than a wrench.... a moment of veiled humor between old friends... and Rick continued that he truly might have to kill Randall to protect the group, but he was going to take a night to think on it. "Killing a man shouldn't come that easy, and you know that."

That's what puts me square in Rick's camp. While I understand Shane's point of view, what he's forgetting is that in an increasingly inhumane world, it is paramount to retain ones humanity, or else we lose the very thing that sets us apart from the animals and plunge into total hopeless chaos.

Rick handed Shane his weapon and said "it's time for you to come back"... meaning back to the "old" Shane.

Will he do it? Will he calm down and accept Rick's leadership? Will he be content in the role of Robin to Rick's Batman? Or, will he continue to pursue his new loose cannon attitude, the flames of which are fanned by an angry and jealous Andrea?

Unsung Heroes of the Zombie Apocalypse pt. 4

The famous boxing coach, Cus D'amato often presented his young fighters with these wise words: "What's the difference between a hero and a coward? Nothing. They're both human. They both feel fear. It's what the hero DOES in the face of that fear that makes him a hero, and what the coward DOESN'T DO that makes him a coward."

I'm paraphrasing a bit, but you get the idea. It's a terrific observation that can apply to any walk of life...including zombie killing. Case in point....Sonia from the 2009 French horror film "Mutants."

This woman is your typical person...she has no superpowers, nor is she an amazing shot with a pistol that never runs out of ammo. But what she has is that desire to survive. Whether fighting zombies, a-holes, or the elements, she keeps on struggling in an effort to secure a place of safety for herself.

We salute you, Sonia, and your amazing efforts to rid your corner of the world of zombies. Truly you are a Scream Queen! <--- shameless plug

Steven Yeun Interview

What Would YOU Have Done?

One of the things I love about AMC's "The Walking Dead" is how they're able to make you see all sides to a situation. Take last night's episode...

(Warning! Spoilers below!)

We know that Hershel, Glenn and Rick were pinned down by an unknown number of guys that came looking for the two Rick put down last week. A gun fight breaks out and toward the end, Rick and Glenn find themselves pinned down behind a dumpster while a young man fired at them from a nearby roof.

Suddenly, the young man's "ride" pulled up, shouted that the area was crawling with "roamers" and that it was time to cut their losses and take off. The young man jumped from the roof to an awning of some kind and then promptly fell and impaled his leg on some decorative, wrought iron fencing. His ride, said "sorry" and took off, leaving him behind in a cloud of dust.

Now was Rick, Glenn and Hershel's chance for a quick getaway. BUT... there lied a young man in horrible agony... what to do? Rick, who despite their environment hasn't completely lost his humanity, wanted to save the young man, because leaving him there would be "cruel"... but the undead were everywhere at this point, and their window for escape was closing fast!

Hershel apologized to the young man and said they had to go... Rick insisted they save him... Glenn shouted that the young man was just shooting at them moments ago (good point)... Hershel suggests removing the young man's leg below the knee... but there's no time.

The walkers were nearly on them... they shoot a few and buy more time, but as we all know, walkers are attracted to the sound... there was no more time... and Rick basically ripped the young man's leg off the fence and they all got in the car and took off.

This whole situation (once explained back at the farm) infuriates an already frazzled Shane, who grows even more convinced that Rick will get them all killed...

So... what would YOU have done? No law, means no legal consequences for "putting the young man out of his misery" by a shot to the head... some might feel a need for vengeance and leave him as food for the walkers... or did Rick do the right thing? Despite the lack of hope, and the horrific surroundings with death around every corner is it possible that every life is still precious, or is it now every person for themselves?

Wow!

If I only had one word to sum up the mid-season start up of The Walking Dead last Sunday evening, it would be that.

Spoiler Alert! If you have yet to watch it, read no further. Instead, go HERE and watch it for free online.

If you remember last time, Shane tore open the barn and the group unloaded their firearms on the walkers contained within, much to the horror of Hershel and his family. Unfortunately, the last walker to come shuffling out of the barn was poor little Sophia.. the young girl they'd been searching for for so many days.

Shane, who up to that point had been beating his chest like a silverback and declaring himself the only one who was willing to do what needed to be done, stood there with his mouth open while Rick stepped forward and put little undead Sophia out of her misery.

Sunday's episode picked up right from there... And it was explosive. One of Hershel's family ran to the zombified remains of her mother and was attacked, as the zombie wasn't quite dead yet. Andrea took care of that in gloriously disgusting fashion using the closest weapon... a scythe.

Hershel ordered everyone off his land and beat a hasty retreat to the local bar, which apparently was his old stomping grounds years before.

Carl told his mom that Rick had done the right thing, and that he would have done the same. A harsh look at how cold this new world is forcing it's children to become.

As distant Darryl is emotionally, it's obvious he cares for Carol (Sophia's mother). Could we be witnessing a budding relationship that goes beyond mere fellow survivors?

Dale told Lori his theory about Shane and Otis' outing. Lori admits that Shane's a hothead, but doesn't believe he's capable of that. Dale disagrees and believes it's only a matter of time before he does it again. After Dale and Shane's exchange in the swamp, Dale should watch his back.

The family member that was attacked went almost catatonic..completely unresponsive, but eyes wide open. Could she have been scratched? Could she be about to turn? With no one else to help her, Rick rides off with Glen to bring Hershel back. Once at the bar, Hershel admits his thoughts of there being a cure... that the walkers were still alive... were way off base. He feels foolish and angry... and hopeless for the first time.

Before they can come back to the farm, they're surprised by two other survivors we've never seen before! That should be a good thing, right? Unfortunately, in the zombie apocalypse you don't just have walkers to worry about, but assholes, too. These were seriously shady guys and Rick's cop skills picked up on it. The world is now basically the lawless, wild west and Rick is it's only lawman, and when these guys went for their guns, Rick's quickdraw put them down right away.

Back at camp Lori asks Darryl to get Rick and Hershel and bring them back for the family member that they think might be in shock. But Darryl is still mourning Sophia in his own way and has retreated back into his shell, refusing to help anyone with anything. "Get them yourself" he tells her.... What he didn't realize is that Lori makes dumb decisions and takes a car into town (where she's never been) by herself. While reading a map she hits a walker and crashes. We don't know her fate, but we have to wonder about her unborn child. Will she miscarry? Will she be pinned and subject to walkers? She only brought a small pistol with about six bullets and she's not nearly the shot that Rick and Shane are.

So, going into next week we've got Rick, Hershel and Glen hiding out from the friends of the jerks Rick killed, Lori trapped in a car wreck that nobody knows about, Shane stomping around camp just seconds away from punching Dale square in the mouth, and a family member in the house that may or may not be turning undead.

Dang this is getting good!!

Unsung Heroes of the Zombie Apocalypse pt. 3

The world is full of heroes. Often times, it's those average every day people that, when under pressure, rise to the occasion and lead others to victory or safety. Many times, they are the 'slackers' of society... content to let the world pass them by... at least until the zombie poop hits the fan.

I present to you, slackers turned zombie slayers, Shaun and Ed of "Shaun of the Dead." Now, I know they're hardly obscure protagonists of the apocalypse, but they are often forgotten among lists of popular zombie butt kickers.

Spoiler Alert (if you've never seen the film, but plan to, stop reading!)...

Of course, those of us familiar with the film know that Ed buys it in the end. It's a sad moment of self-sacrifice by a wounded man... someone who knows his fate is sealed and pushes his best friend onward while they still have a chance. It's also hilarious when that sad moment is lightened by a fart joke. Only Shaun and Ed could pull off such a combination.

So... we salute you, Shaun & Ed. Should the zombies return, let's all meet at the Winchester for a pint until it blows over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Next Sunday!!

Attention "Walking Dead" fans! Please stand by for an announcement from the Obvious Police...

"The Walking Dead" returns this Sunday, Feb. 12th!!

I'm assuming that all other fans are as excited as I am to see how the rest of this season plays out. As we know, just a few weeks ago, we saw the barn doors opened, Hershel's will thwarted, and poor little Sophia mercifully put down by Rick. It's been a wild, crazy ride thus far, and it looks to get even nuttier.

How will Hershel react to Shane putting down the "people" he'd been harboring since the outbreak began? Whose baby is Lori carrying? How long before Shane goes completely bonkers? Will we EVER find out what the scientist whispered to Rick at the end of season one??

If you haven't already, please check out THIS LINK for an all too brief look at what we will see over the rest of this season. Notice the headbutt Shane gives Rick? How about the car accident? And finally, Darryl pointing a gun at someone and saying "sorry brother"?? (Merle's return??)

It looks to be an amazing ride until the season finale, AND in case you had not heard, it HAS been picked up for a third season, which means we could possibly have a huge cliffhanger that will drive us crazy in anticipation of it's conclusion.

So get ready! Grab your shotgun and crossbow, and put on your zombie ear necklace because something tells me it's about to hit the fan!

Unsung Heroes of the Zombie Apocalypse pt. 2

I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and while we all know the famous faces of zombie killers, many times there are those who are just as effective and, often times more colorful, get lost among the horde.

Today we continue our salute to those whose faces you may not be familiar with. LAST TIME it was Father McGruder from New Zealand's DEAD ALIVE (aka BRAIN DEAD). Today's hero is the protagonist from that film....

...Mr. Lionel Cosgrove!

Heroes are often seen as strong, confident individuals with almost an uncanny sense for danger. Lionel was none of those things. A meek, little man, Lionel was under the thumb of his controlling mother until one bite from a diseased Sumatran rat monkey changed everything.

Lionel bravely sliced, diced, and chopped his way thru the apocalypse, while keeping his beautiful girlfriend near his side AND protecting his zombified mother.

In fact, Lionel did something that I have yet to see again in a zombie film. When a blood thirsty horde of zombie party goers took over his mothers home, he rigged a shoulder strap to his lawn mower and went to work in one of the most disgustingly bloody scenes of all time.

Unsung Heroes of the Zombie Apocalypse

If you follow zombie films at all, you are familiar with the "patron saints" of undead exterminating. There's Alice from the RESIDENT EVIL films, Tallahassee from ZOMBIELAND, Ash from EVIL DEAD and ARMY OF DARKNESS, and Darryl from THE WALKING DEAD just to name a few.

They're all pretty proficient with snapping necks and blasting diseased brains to kingdom come, but they aren't the only ones who are pretty good at putting the undead back into the grave!

Meet Father McGruder from DEAD ALIVE. Although a small player in the film, this man of the cloth had one of the most memorable scenes in the entire film with two... that's right... TWO fantastic catch phrases that should definitely be worked into conversation at least once per day by every one of us.

Unfortunately, Father McGruder didn't survive, but stories of his efforts against the undead will be handed down from zombie nerd to zombie nerd for generations to come.

Fun Zombie Flicks

Have you noticed that zombie movies are everywhere? Isn't it great? Well, sometimes it is. In browsing the surprisingly large zombie library on Netflix, I've found a few that are diamonds in the rough. Check them out...

DEAD SNOW

Nazi zombies that can run and throw punches, this funny and horrifying 2009 film comes from Norway.

DEAD ALIVE (original title BRAIN DEAD)

This one is near and dear to my heart, as it was my first experience with a zombie film. It's campy, cult horror hilarity, and it was directed by Peter Jackson (hello? Lord of the Rings?) What made me pick up this gem at my video store (this was 1993) was the fact that it called itself the goriest movie ever!

It is.

DAY OF THE DEAD

This is not the Romero version you're thinking of. This one came out in 2008 and had a few big names in it! Mena Suvari, Nick Cannon (AKA "Mr. Mariah Carey"), AnnaLynne McCord, and my man Ving Rhames!

They took quite a few liberties from Romero's version... in fact it's NOTHING like Romero's version, but I really enjoyed it. Check it out.

THE HORDE

From the land of "fromage" comes a 2009 fanTAStic zombie flick with good guys and bad guys teaming up to survive one night trapped in an old apartment building at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. I reviewed it in this blog some time back. See it HERE if you'd like more info.

If not, just know I give it a hearty "oui, oui"!

Skins Update

I'm afraid it looks bleak at the moment for B'hold Designs creations to make the leap to a mobile device near you. Ever since losing my spot with the company who got my hopes up originally, I've been emailing a couple of contacts at a different, larger company in the hopes of being added to their roster of artists.

Unfortunately, I keep getting the same basic reply: "no new artists until NEXT quarter."

Nothing against the cool guys I was emailing. I'm sure they're just telling me the way it is. They seemed to like my work, so I don't think it was about that, though I'm not certain.

I should probably give up, right? Nay!! I have found yet ANOTHER company and started the arduous task of "cold calling" in hopes of getting my foot in the door. Should anything develop, I'll be sure and let you know.

Happy Friday the 13th!

What's that noise? And why did the power go out while I was taking a shower? It must be because it's every psychopaths favorite day....Friday the 13th!

Every since the first Friday the 13th film came out waaaaay back in 1980, we've been afraid to go camping, hiking, or anything that takes place in the deep woods. Sure, some people still go, but I'm sure that when it's dark, and the camp fire is dying out, they think of Jason the same way those who go into the ocean think of Jaws.

Interesting bit of trivia here...did you know Kevin Bacon was in the very first Friday the 13th? It's true! And to answer your question, no, he did not survive. Not only that, his death was particularly creepy! Don't believe me? Check out the clip below (warning! it's not for the squeamish):

Maybe Jason was trying to show Kevin the dangers of smoking in bed. I'm sure his entire killing spree was just a misunderstanding (speaking of, check out the hilarious movie Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.... talk about your misunderstandings!)

So go out and grab some classic Friday films for the night. There's a great Friday the 13th remake that somehow made Jason even scarier that came out a couple of years back (that's it's film poster at the top of this post). It's even got the gratuitous drug references and nude scenes that made 80's horror films great!

Holy Crap, It's a New Year.

Hey, guess what? It's a new year. I'm excited because it only took a couple of weeks to figure it out. Usually it's March before I start dating things correctly.

Did you make any resolutions? I never do...or always do, depending on how you look at it. Each year I make a resolution to not make any resolutions... but of course by doing so, I immediately break the very resolution I never had any intention of making. Paradox. I'm such a deep thinker.

Apparently fitness goals are big on the resolution list each year. I know this because the gym I go to is over run by new faces each year at this time. The crowding can be a bit of a pain, but hats off to anyone who takes the steps to get in shape.

Speaking of the gym, I've noticed something disturbing in the men's locker room. All the older guys love to walk around naked. A lot. They'll dry their hair, stand at the urinal, make small talk with total strangers and even brush their teeth....all while their dangling party favors force your eyes to the ceiling.

Sorry if that was a little more information than you wanted. Even sorrier if you were eating a hotdog while reading.

"Friends" forever!

I loved the 90's show "Friends." The silly antics of a group of pals from NY made me laugh time and time again. That program is where I first saw my celebrity crush, Jennifer Aniston (actually, the movie "Leprechaun" is the first time I saw her, but i didn't realize it until years later).

When setting out to find a pic of Ms. Aniston to zombify, I found this great shot of she and Courtney Cox at some kind of party and the rest is history. I'm not sure if you can tell, but the background is the set of their favorite coffee spot, Central Perk.

It seems things have changed a bit since the zombie apocalypse, but one thing remains the same.... Monica and Rachel are still pals and seem to be really enjoying the life of the undead - although it looks like Phoebe either didn't make the cut, or they finally got sick of hearing "Smelly Cat." But just because Phoebe was devoured, doesn't mean she can't still hang out with the girls. And hey... SOMEone has to watch Jennifer's purse.

By the way, did you notice I signed this image? I don't do that very often, but felt compelled to do so this time. Not sure why... I think maybe I just like the idea of Jennifer having my name tattooed on her arm.

Wow... I've really been gone from this blog a while! Sorry about that. I'm totally blaming it on the craziness of the holidays, last minute shopping, and tag-team illnesses in my house.

But, now that I'm healed, and Christmas is over, it's back to work in the labs of B'hold Designs!

Now, those of you that watch The Office on NBC, know that if ANYone could survive the zombie apocalypse, it's Dwight. But, I thought it might be kind of fun to turn him into a moaning undead anyway...just for kicks.

It looks as if the clean-up crew has long since fled, considering the state the office is in. And would you look at that! It's seems the destruction of mankind and the rise of the dead haven't stopped Dwight's mortal enemy, Jim, from playing pranks! Poor Dwight...it looks like it's back to shuffling thru the streets if he wants something to snack on!

2 Years Ago Today...

December 23, 2009, my father passed away. It was one of those things you knew was getting closer and closer, and yet it still caught everyone off guard. He was 81.

He called me the night of Dec. 21, to tell me he had passed out and they were taking him to a local hospital. He asked if I'd drive my mother to the hospital to see him, and a couple of hours later, mom and I were by his side in the emergency room.

He seemed fine. He teased me about my ugliness chasing the cute nurses out of the room, and made my mother smile with his humor which led to something I don't ever remember seeing... a short, tender kiss between them. The next day was my sisters birthday, so then and there he called her on the phone to assure her he was fine, and give his best wishes for her special day.

He told us he felt well enough to go home, and was so sure he was on the mend, that he "ordered" us home because he felt there was no need for us to "waste our time" standing around. We turned and walked out of the room, and I looked back to see my smiling father waving goodbye.

A few hours later, we were called back to the hospital. He had passed out again, and this time it took 15 minutes of CPR to bring him back.

This time when we walked into the hospital it was a completely different experience. There was dad in the ICU with tubes and wires hooked to him...unconscious. The staff didn't hold out much hope.

During that time I did something that was long overdue. I whispered in his ear how much I loved him, told him how sorry I was for disappointing him so many times in my life, and thanked him for having the courage to adopt me.

Over the next several hours he "coded" two more times before enough was enough and he was gone.

So, in what seemed like the blink of an eye, the anchor of our family was gone forever. The man I'd looked up to for over 40 years suddenly wasn't there to give an encouraging word or tell me everything would be ok.

My mother has done pretty well considering everything that she had to go thru in the aftermath of his death. She's a strong woman. My sister is as well, and is able to stand strong knowing that dad would want her to.

I'm not as strong of a person and still struggle with his absence, but I am confident in the fact that I will see him again one day, and that keeps me going.

He was a husband, a father, a friend, a soldier, and a prankster and I will love and miss him forever.

It's crazy how a wonderful holiday like Christmas can bring such sadness, and it's tripled with the loss of someone dear. So my prayers go out to all of you who might be going thru something similar with a loved one.

Time marches on, and sometimes that really sucks, but we must continue to move forward...to live... and by doing so, we honor the memory of the lost.

Some time back, I started a little series called "Sensational Sell-ebrities." If you're unfamiliar, it involves me voicing my all time dream list of celebrity endorsements, and includes a photoshopped image of said celebrity wearing one of my shirts.

The first one of these I posted (see it HERE) involved my celebrity crush, Ms. Jennifer Aniston and featured her in the photo you see to your left.

NOW it seems that she has been named "Hottest Woman of All Time." Wow! What a title!

If she had been named "Hottest of the Last Six Months" or even "Nicest Hair in Beverly Hills" I wouldn't have given it much thought. But this title can only mean one thing.... the Hottest Woman of All Time committee MUST have been trolling the internet and found my photoshopped rendering of Jen wearing one of my designs, right? I mean, this blog is viewed a trillion times a day by humans, animals AND aliens, so it's highly possible that my image nudged her just enough to put her over the top. That's believable, isn't it? I hope so, because that's what I'm scrawling in my feelings journal tonight.

I have never met the lovely Ms. Aniston, so if any of you humans, animals or aliens out there see her at Starbucks, please pass along my most heartfelt congratulations and tell her I have a new shirt designed especially for her (pictured).

We all have our own opinions when it comes to zombies... this movie's better than that movie... slow moving zombies are better than runners...etc... but, to my knowledge, no one has set up a match-up to decide the best of all time quite like this.

NOOO!!! (spoiler alert)

Well, if you watch AMC's The Walking Dead, you know that the crew finally, FINALLY found poor little Sophia in last night's episode. Unfortunately, Rick had to put a bullet in her head as she was UNDEAD. Anyone see that coming? I sure didn't.

This show is amazing to me. Every episode ends with something that makes me gasp, but NEVER so much as last night. And what exactly did the death of zombified Sophia mean for the program? It means NO ONE is safe, which is exactly how it would be in that situation, and I applaud the show's willingness to be that real.

We all know that Shane has been saying a lot of things lately... that he's the only one that knows what it takes to exist in that world... that Rick's line of thinking is pre-apocalypse and, therefore, outdated and dangerous... that he's the true leader of the group... but who was it that stepped up when necessary, and did the impossible job of putting down undead Sophia? Rick. In that moment, I believe he solidified himself as the true leader of the group.

Shane has been going down a dark path for quite some time now, and I honestly didn't know what would happen in the "swamp confrontation" between he and Dale. Shane has threatened him once already... I honestly thought at the very least, Dale was going to get punched in the face. Now we see (if you've watched the previews for the Feb. 12 episode) that Dale is sharing his thoughts on Shane's character with Lori. How much longer can Shane last before completely blowing a gasket and "going Otis" on one of the group? How much longer will it be before Rick and Shane come to blows? They have such a strong bond of friendship, but can it survive their rivalry over who is the alpha male? What do you think? Feel free to comment your opinion below!

Despite having my site currently offline, the scientists in the B'hold Designs labs are still hard at work kicking out undead material. Nothing like mussing up someone's hair and decaying their flesh to take your mind off important matters.

Today I'm adding two new victims to the celebrity zombie archives! Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson! You know them. They've got that popular show on Syfy about ghost hunting titled (appropriately enough) Ghosthunters! Apparently, all those sleepless nights chasing ghosts took it's toll.

Maybe Ghosthunters will have a zombie episode! That would be kind of cool, right? Here's an idea... everyone write letters to the producers of the show requesting it, and put in a footnote about knowing an extremely handsome zombie consultant they could hire and give them my name! What? You thought since I said handsome I meant someone else? Ok, give them my name, but put in a picture of Clooney if it makes you feel better.

I don't know if you tried to access my website yesterday, but as of this writing it's down. I'll be working on that today, but in the meantime, you might be thinking "what the heck happened??"

Some of you know that I chat with Jason Hawes of Syfy's Ghosthunters from time to time. We actually met thanks to some silly photoshop fun I was having with him and his crew during the early seasons. He's a really cool guy with a great sense of humor.

Anyway, I sent him a link to my latest blog because I thought he might get a kick out of my latest wallpaper. Out of the goodness of his heart he posted a note about it on his Facebook page resulting in over 82,000 hits! Unfortunately, it was too much for B'hold Designs HQ and it went down like the Hindenburg. It was awesome!

So, thank you Jason for introducing me to a whole bunch of new people, and fear not, lovers of zombies.... the B'hold Designs scientists are doing their best to relaunch the site and all will be back to normal as soon as possible!

Almost Halloween!

Hey everyone!

What a great time of year! The leaves are blowing down the street... the skies are overcast... grinning jack-o-lanterns on every porch.. spooky isn't it? It just 'screams' (like that?) of scary movies.

Of course we all know the Halloween movie series. I love them. Not ALL of them... (can't stand H3) ... but the majority are pretty darned cool. Personally, I prefer old school to the Rob Zombie revamps, but his are pretty cool too. Very dark.

My recommendation for you tonight is to shut off all the lights, curl up on the couch and dive into a Halloween marathon! You might regret it, but not until bed time.

Sensational Sell-ebrities! ... pt. 8

It's been a while since I've done one of these, so let me refresh your memory as to what it's all about… The "Sensational Sell-ebrities" blog entries are dedicated specifically to the Hollywood elite who have NO idea I exist, but whose star power would reeeeeeeally help me sell some stuff. LAST TIME it was the main stars of AMC's The Walking Dead… and today features one particular character from that program.

I present to you, Mr. Norman Reedus!

Mr. Reedus plays "Darryl Dixon" on The Walking Dead….a character I didn't like very much in the beginning, but have now come to admire. While he has his quirks (if you can call bigotry a quirk), he has climbed the ladder of respect in terms of zombie defense and disposal.

With his crossbow and hunting/tracking skills, Darryl Dixon is someone you definitely want with you when facing the undead. His silent kills (because bullets attract the horde) are legendary and, quite frankly, ninja-like. His fearlessness and precision will be gushed over by zombie nerds for eons to come.

Now imagine Mr. Reedus at a comicon or some other event wearing the ULTIMATE CAMOUFLAGE from B'hold Designs! Talk about a crossbow bolt in the arm for sales!

SO…(Robert Stack voice)…if YOU happen to see Mr. Reedus at the crossbow range, or skinning raccoons along the river bank, tell him there's one more thing he could be doing to insure his survival in a post-apocalyptic world…then, while he's got you pinned against the wall with a bowie knife to your neck, simply direct him to my website, and know that angry, steely glare that makes you want to pee yourself is just his way of saying 'thanks.'

A lot of designers are very talented in traditional art as well as digital. I am not one of those people. Seriously, at best, I'd make a decent Pictionary partner. That's it.

This is an image I created a while back that I've recently revamped and "spruced" a little. It was completely for fun, which means I got zero dollars for it. Unfortunately, MOST of the projects I love to work on make me bupkis, but that's ok. I still enjoy creating them.

A combination of two different renderings, this image was created using a cool 3D program called Bryce. I set up the ship and the waterscape, and then a separate one for space. Then, using Photoshop, I brought them both together and added a few extra touches.

Maybe I'll print it out and paste it to a canvas to make myself feel better.

It's no secret to those who know me that I'm a big fan of NBC's The Office. Since the pilot episode I have followed the insane careers of the good (and slightly kooky) people of Dunder Mifflin.

I first collided their world with the undead a while back when I gave my idea of which of the cast I thought would survive a zombie apocalypse and for how long.

Now, it seems that Jim and Pam have fallen victim to the bite of the undead! I present to you "Office Zombies"

I Did NOT See THAT Coming!

Before anyone makes a "that's what she said" joke, I'm referring to the crazily out-of-the-blue ending to the season premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC last Sunday.

Warning...if you have yet to watch it, the following (and any comments) will contain a spoiler or two.

Wow! What a premiere! We've all been waiting for nearly a year to rejoin Rick and the other survivors as they make their way away from the CDC toward Ft. Benning, GA (a real place in which my dad was once stationed).

Low on gas, and leaning heavily on each others nerves, the crew got a good distance down the road before running into the "freeway graveyard"... a collection of vehicles driven by people long since dead or UNdead. It's at this point that we see another horde... maybe not as large as the one Rick encountered on horseback last season, but a menacing one, none the less.

Diving for cover, the majority of survivors laid under cars waiting for the dead to finish shuffling by (did anyone ELSE think that a zombie would fall down and spot them?).

T-Dog and Darryl weaved in and out of crashed vehicles to avoid being spotted, while a peeved Andrea spent her time battling a zombie in the RV.

I LOVED this scene... I personally felt the suspense was built up extremely well. Frightening...tense... and amazing.

By the way, did you notice the awesome kill Darryl made to save T-Dog? What did he use? Was that an icepick? Whatever it was, Darryl is my new favorite zombie killer. That guy is a ninja... and afraid of no one.

Poor little Sophia...just couldn't wait to get out from under that car, which led to her being chased by two undead into the deep forest. Rick saved her life, but she somehow became separated and is currently MIA.

While searching for her, the group come upon a camping tent. Inside is a corpse...a real one, not a zombie. As the camera pans down to show the gun in the dead persons hand, there is a large button on his jacket. I tried pausing my DVR many times to read what it said and couldn't. Anyone out there get a look and have any idea?

Finally, the big finale..... who saw that coming? A nice, peaceful moment between one of God's unspoiled creatures of the forest, and a child... Carl... then BANG!! I was flabbergasted! So, who did it?? I have a buddy that's thinking it's Merle. Remember him from episode two last year? Darryl's brother whom they left on the rooftop sawing thru his own wrist to get away from the undead?

Despite the fact that he's a jerk supreme, I'm not sure he would take out his anger on a child...but then again, Rick IS the one responsible for handcuffing him on that roof.

I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the premiere, as well as your ideas on where it will go from here! Shout out, zombie fans!

Happy Birthday Connor!

Hey everyone! My youngest son, Connor turned 12 today!

His poor mother was sick during most of the pregnancy, and when he was born he had a slight case of jaundice (long gone), and he currently has some food allergies that just don't seem to want to go away, but he sure doesn't let it hold him back. He's got more energy and enthusiasm for life than most people I know!

I wish you all could know him. He's funny, handsome (of course) AND...he's a gifted artist! That boy can draw some really cool stuff...

Happy birthday, little buddy! I love ya!

Well, after nearly an entire YEAR of waiting, Season Two starts TONIGHT!!

But what if you never got around to watching the FIRST season? First of all, shame on you... secondly, it's ok. They're running a complete marathon of the 6 episode first season today starting at 2:30 pm Eastern time (with season 2 premiering at 9 Eastern) so you can get completely caught up.

Zombie Frank!

I am beside myself with anticipation. I am busting out of my skin (and not just because I'm gaining weight).

Why?

Because this Sunday is my son's birthday! Oh, and also the premiere of WALKING DEAD SEASON TWO!!!

PLEASE tell me you've seen it. It is the most fantastic show on tv! I never thought I'd see such a fantastic television show centered around life during the zombie apocalypse, but that is truly what it is. I know. I've mentioned that before. I love it. You get it.

I also remember mentioning how cool the original director, Mr. Frank Darabont, was in not only accepting one of my shirts, but writing me such a great thank you! (catch up on the whole story HERE)

So when it came to zombifying someone this week, it was an easy choice....for my birthday boy. He's the one who suggested Mr. Darabont, and it makes perfect sense, considering the timing of the second season.

Have you noticed that the addition of flies have kind of become a staple in my images? I like them! I feel they help convey that "rotting" feeling.....as if the dead flesh weren't enough.

Reach Out and Bite Someone...

I broke my phone today. Well, the glass face of it. Kind of a pain, but there's a repair place down the street that fixed it in less than 20 minutes. Quick and convenient...and that's what got me thinking. In a zombie apocalypse, there are no quick fixes.

Imagine being on the run from the undead...either to your car or down some stairs, or wherever the apocalypse might find you. You'd probably be glad to have a phone with you, especially if you'd somehow become separated from your loved ones. But how long would a phone actually last?

Let's assume that the apocalypse is in full swing. Traditional forms of assistance are disabled... it's chaos in the street... and also quite likely that the power is out. And, for our purposes, let's imagine that the apocalypse was only virus created....no meteors, no massive storms...in other words, we still have towers up and standing.

Now, given that scenario, how long would a cell phone last? If I'm careful, mine can last a couple of days, and I've heard of others lasting much longer... so would you be able to gather your family/friends together in that amount of time? Could you rig a charger to a battery source? And then there's the question of reception.

Is it possible that the rapidly-fading-from-use land line phone could be the savior? Your cell may give out, but what about that old gas station down the street with the filthy wall mounted unit? If poles are still up, it might be just what you need to make contact.

Celebrity Make Over!

It's that time again, when I dust off my nuclear-powered bedazzler, set it on 'zombify' and just go crazy on an unsuspecting celebrity. The last two entries focused on funny men Jim Carrey (see it here), and Conan O'Brien (see it here).

So who is my latest victim? None other than zombie author Max Brooks!

Not familiar with Max? You should be! The author of The Zombie Survival Guide, Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks, and World War Z, he has secured himself a seat at the "head table of knowledge" regarding all things zombie.

Max makes personal appearances all across the nation, and was recently a guest expert on the undead for Spike TV's Deadliest Warrior in a battle against vampires (I won't mention the outcome, as I haven't finished screaming "FIX!!").

I've sent this image on to Max himself (thru a friend) in hopes that he will love it so much that he'll hang it in a place of prominence while he entertains fellow zombie legends like George Romero, or Frank Darabont. If I get any kind of reply I'll be sure and let you know...unless it's a restraining order, in which case I may not be able to discuss it.

Notice the missing eye. Apparently he's been undead long enough to not only lose it, but pick up a resident spider that appears quite comfy there. He probably makes a good living with the flies being so attracted to the stench that they don't mind congregating a mere couple of inches from his web! (hope no one is trying to eat pizza right now).

Choose Your Weapon

My sons enjoy playing the zombie apocalypse video game, Left4Dead. I love it too, but I just can't sit there forever like they can. I guess I'm old.

While the survivors of that particular zombie apocalypse are vastly outnumbered, they have some things NONE of us would have if we were ever faced with the same scenario. Guns. Lots and lots and LOTS of guns. AND the ammo to go in them!

Every so often you can find piles of ammo and fully loaded weapons (ranging from handgun to assault rifle and the occasional grenade launcher) just lying around. Usually they're accompanied by untouched first aid kits, and ready-to-use explosives. Convenient, right?

I suppose for video games it pretty much has to be that way, but what about us in the real world? What would YOU use? Do you have anything in your home/office/dorm/apartment that could be used as a weapon? A lot of people own handguns, but not everyone. What then? Power tools? A rake? I want to know!

But, here's the catch... make it something you can actually get your hands on. Keep it real. Just crying out "flamethrower" is cool, but could you get it realistically? Maybe you could....are you, or a family member in the reserves with access to high powered weaponry? Awesome. Are you in an apartment with not even a hammer? Find something around you! Pretend your door will be broken down any moment! What can you use to defend yourself?

And while you're thinking about it, why not take the first step of zombie protection and purchase your own B'hold Designs Ultimate Camouflage....better than a flame thrower, and cheaper, too!

Pop Quiz!

Relax. It's not the kind of pop quiz we all groaned about during our school days. This one is fun!

Ok, we all know how cool zombies are and how much fun it is to watch movies about the undead....but what if they were real? Here's what I want to know (feel free to write your answers in the comment section or on your hand if you'd rather) :

1. Imagine yourself in a zombie apocalypse. Considering your CURRENT surroundings, what vehicle would you go for? Now before you say a tank with mounted flame thrower, etc..... keep this realistic based upon what is readily available to you right now. If you just happen to live near a military base, great, or if the neighbor has a hummer, that's cool too, but keep it real to your living situation.

2. What three items would you take with you? Again, before you say "helicopter" or "80 lbs of Power bars and 1000 rolls of 2-ply toilet paper" keep it (say it with me) REALISTIC. If you had to be on foot for any period of time, and you could only bring three items, what would they be?

and finally...

3. Where would you go? A relatives house? The hospital? The postoffice? The candy store? Keep it realistic based on some place you could conceivably reach in a relatively short period of time.

So take your time, think about it and let me know what you come up with! Personally, I'll be miles beneath the earth's crust in a safe room deep within B'hold Designs headquarters. I just want to know who I'll be able to call for an update once the zombies come.

Could YOU survive a horror flick?

Ladies...how many times have you watched a horror movie and become disgusted with the women involved? Every female victim screams and cries and either runs INTO the house or UP the stairs, and most of the time while wearing little more than a towel (after all, who doesn't take a shower during a power outage brought on by a thunder storm in the middle of the woods?).

But, there is one woman that despite her high heels, or panicky nature, taps into that inner "fierceness" and gives the machete-wielding psychopath a run for his money. Her character quickly evolves from scared little rabbit to kung-fu rambolina on steroids....who is she? She's the SCREAM QUEEN.

You're one of those. You know where NOT to run....you know to grab the dead boyfriends car keys before fleeing the scene....AND you know how to make a complicated trap that would make Fred Jones proud!

No freak with a hockey mask is going to kill YOUR dog/mom/boyfriend/sister/babysitter without a machete/chainsaw/hammer/screwdriver to the noggin courtesy of Y-O-U!!

So, come by the shop and pick up the shirt that will make any masked intruder think twice before busting in the door of YOUR summer camp shower room.

In the history of 'me' there are many people that have made me laugh. I am a huge fan of several different comedians...some for their stand-up, some for their skit work in various programs, and some for their work on the big screen....but only one man made tears stream down my face with laughter. That same man was so ridiculously hilarious in the film Liar Liar, that my wife went into labor just a few hours after seeing it...and she wasn't even pregnant (Just kidding...She was...and due).

That man is the legendary Jim Carrey.

I have enjoyed peering into his world so many times throughout his career, that I thought it was time to drag him into mine.

Skins Update, and a Plea for Help

Last month I contacted a skin company about hosting some of my designs (I had a deal in place with a different company last year, but that fell thru).

I'm very excited about the possibility of hooking up with this new company, as they are more well known. After my last message and samples, they asked me to contact them again at the beginning of next month and we could discuss things.

I'm currently working on some new designs that will hopefully grab their attention and capitalize on this "zombie renaissance" we're currently experiencing in pop culture.

But I need your help...

They are interested to hear what kind of following I have generated online, which will probably aid in their decision making process. So what do I need from you?

BODIES.

Now don't get me wrong. I love the "after school in my garage" gathering we have here. You have each been so great as to not only buy my designs, or read my blathering on a regular basis, but be my friends! I truly appreciate each one of you....but at the risk of sounding greedy... I need more!

We must take to the streets of the interweb, waving our signs and chanting our slogans, so that the zombie-liciousness of B'HOLD DESIGNS will be known by every man, woman and child! In so doing, perhaps one day ALL may be able to stride down the streets in comfort, knowing that, thanks to designs like THIS, their noggin will be safe in a zombie apocalypse!

Feel free to shout the name of B'hold Designs from your roof (please don't climb up there), or paint my web address on the underbelly of a passenger jet (I wouldn't if I were you)! Personally, I plan to print a few of my blogs out, cork them in a bottle and throw it as far as I can into the ocean (Being hundreds of miles from a coastline it might take a couple of tries).

And, no doubt, you grabbed your shovel and ran to your nearest cemetery in an attempt to re-enact what you'd just watched, right? Right? Hello?? Ok...apparently, that was just me.

My point is, we love zombies. Who doesn't? If pop culture is any indication, those that don't are in the minority! Rejoice, fellow zombie fan! Now you can shout your love for digging up the undead without fear of ridicule or disgust!

Of all the tv shows I enjoy, I am drawn to LAW & ORDER: SVU. Something about the characters, cases and writing keeps me glued to the screen. And on those days when USA runs a marathon....well, nothing much gets done in my house.

So, since I love the show, and (thanks to the economic downturn) have a little extra time on my hands, I thought I'd do a tribute to my two favorite t.v. cops...zombie style.

And thus.... GNAW & ODOR: SZU was born!

And remember! You TOO can be made over into a moaning undead, without the hassle of getting bitten by an actual zombie! Thanks to scientific breakthroughs in zombie creation by the geeks at B'HOLD DESIGNS, it's as easy as following THESE STEPS.

Do You Dream in Undead?

I've never had much of a problem remembering my dreams. They're always in color and a couple of times, I was actually lucid and able to control them, but just for a couple seconds before waking up.

Sometimes the dreams are really fun, sometimes they're frightening, and sometimes they're just plain silly. I've had many dreams of "brilliant" designs that for the first few seconds after waking, I could hardly wait to get started on. However, after a few minutes of being awake, it finally occurs to me that they are (usually) ridiculous.

They're always in color, and always vivid, which make it all the more fun when I dream about zombies!

The majority of my zombie dreams are based on survival. One dream found me in a parking lot in the middle of my childhood home town. Myself and a few others ran for a car as the undead closed in. The interesting part was how the car shrunk in size as we dove in. There were only four of us, but we were so crammed that we nearly couldn't close the doors. They did close eventually and the rest of the dream was like playing life-sized pinball while riding in a blood-splattered clown car.

Another was first-person shooter, like a lot of great zombie killing video games (THIS ONE is my personal favorite). Blasting away at the forever oncoming undead with unlimited ammunition was a literal "blast."

But the one that really captured my attention and memory…the one I STILL tell people to this day had no running, no shooting…no action whatsoever.

In this particular zombie dream, my eyes fluttered open in the middle of the night and I was still in my bed with the covers pulled up close. Once they focused I was shocked to find every open spot on my floor filled with undead. My eyes slowly panned across their faces starting with the one furthest from me. There were "fresh" zombies as well as those in advanced states of decay. I was frozen…unable to move as they all stared daggers thru me…as if they would pounce any second.

Finally, my eyes reached the last zombie; the one right next to me. He was tall, and skeletal and frightening…and as my eyes met his, he leaned down close as if to see if I was awake…his rotting, soulless eyes no more than an inch above mine.

It was then I woke up.

It may not sound like much, but in my tiny brain it was spooky and creepy and AWESOME. I loved it.

So tonight before bed, I recommend watching as much zombie horror as you can. And if your normally tranquil REM cycle turns a bit too freaky, just holler for me. I'll be the one in the blood-splattered clown car.

World War Z Movie

How many times have you seen a film based on a book and thought "the book was way better"? Pretty much every time, right? I think part of that is the challenge faced by screenwriters to take a 400 page novel and condense it to 110 pages of film script.

At least they try.....or DO they?

When I first heard that WORLD WAR Z, the great zombie novel by Max Brooks, was the center of a bidding war for the film rights, I got really excited. I loved the book, and even had the opportunity to meet Max once. He signed my copy with "Brett, great shirt! Thanks!" (I had just given him one of THESE.) So, a bidding war for a great novel meant that the folks in Hollywood were really wanting to tell this story! I couldn't wait.

Then I found out who was bidding. On one side you had Brad Pitt's production company. I guess he's ok, but I would never put him in a zombie film. On the other......Leo Dicaprio. A decent actor, but I would NEVER want the "I'm king of the world" guy in a zombie film. ESPECIALLY one by Max Brooks. Sorry. He's just not cool enough.

Fast forward a bit.... Pitt's company won. Fine. At least it's getting made.

HOWEVER....it appears (according to THIS ARTICLE) that Mr. Pitt has decided that the original novel is not a good enough concept for his film, and is allegedly taking the film in an entirely different direction!

Why do film makers do this? Why do they love a book so much that they want to alter the story? How does that work? It doesn't have to be that way, and frequently isn't, so why is it that Pitt's "vision" is so much better than that of Brooks??

I have to wonder how this makes Max feel. He spent a LOT of time creating this work from the sweat of his brain....rewrites, sleepless nights (probably)...getting it exactly the way he wanted it. Then someone comes along, buys it and tears it all apart, in an effort to present their OWN vision for HIS idea. Crazy.

Hopefully it's not too late. Apparently the Brooks/zombie disciples are pissed, and rightly so. Maybe those in control of this film will hear our cries and stop messing with the original story before it turns into an amalgam of aliens, zombies, and Dora the Explorer.

That's What SHE Screamed

I don't watch a lot of television. Well that's not true. I actually DO watch a lot, but my short attention span usually dictates a constant flicking of the remote control with no more than a few seconds spent on any particular channel. One show I stop for every time, however, is NBC's "The Office." I've been hooked since episode one and look forward to next season.

Recently I had a thought….. how would the characters in "The Office" fare in a zombie apocalypse? I've given this some thought and have created a list of the characters, starting with the quickest to die and ending with the most likely to survive.

1. Kevin Malone - 10 minutes…tops.

Poor Kevin. This guy wouldn't have much of a chance. According to the hit movie "Zombieland", cardio is priority number one and I'm betting he doesn't have it. The character Kevin is also a very slow-witted type with lagging reflexes…unless there's cake.

2. Toby Flenderson - a couple of hours

Toby would most likely stay in his cubicle and simply shrug an unspoken "oh well" as the undead attacked.

3. Stanley Hudson - just a few hours

Stanley probably doesn't have the cardio either, but the main problem for this character is his heart. An 'over the top' fire drill from Dwight sent him straight to the hospital. I can't imagine he'd do much better with a city full of undead.

4. Ryan and Kelly - a day…maybe

Everyone familiar with the show knows that Kelly is way more devoted to Ryan than he is to her, so there's no doubt in my mind that he would ditch her in a heartbeat. Of course, he's not prone to making good decisions and could never survive on his own. Kelly, left all alone might be able to tap into her "fierceness" and slug a few zombies, but she wouldn't last long.

5. Phyllis (and Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration) - 3 days

Phyllis doesn't have the cardio either, but she does have Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration. No doubt he has access to some durable delivery trucks that might be able to take them quite a distance down the road, but with few provisions, and most likely no gas at the pumps, their days would be in the single digits.

6. Angela Martin - 3 days

As soon as the zombie poo would hit the fan, I'm sure Angela would hunker down in her home with her cats awaiting a chopper rescue from her gay state senator boyfriend…which would most likely never come. Once the cat food is gone, her precious "children" would turn on her and she'd become human meow mix.

7. Meredith - 3 days

Immediately running to Poor Richard's pub, Meredith would hunker down and drink herself into a catatonic state. The zombies would later greatly appreciate the vodka pickled taste of her gray matter.

8. Andy & Erin - a week

Andy and Erin run off together with Andy seeking help from his vast network of fellow Cornell grads….none of which come thru for him. To keep their spirits up, they sing songs which, of course, attracts the horde.

9. Oscar Martinez - a week

Unwilling to admit that those creating the chaos are actually zombies, Oscar eventually emerges from his home in an attempt to "talk" to the attackers. They aren't receptive.

10. Darryl - 2 weeks

With their size and strength, Darryl and his fellow warehouse buddies actually do pretty well fighting off the undead, but the greater the number, the harder it is to keep up the pace and eventually he is overcome.

11. Creed - several weeks

Creed is a slippery guy. Comments he has made in the past would lead one to believe that he has eluded capture many times before and this would be no different. His downfall would actually come from fellow survivors from whom, no doubt, he would steal provisions and vehicles.

12. Pam, Jim and baby Cece - a few years

Pam and Jim are pretty smart people. Most likely they would find their way thru the chaos and reluctantly take refuge with Michael in Colorado (I can see Jim making a pros and cons list the night before….pros, safety with Michael…cons, death..hmm…). What effects prolonged exposure to the high levels of Michael-Holly nerdity would have on their psyche is anyone's guess.

13. Michael and Holly - a few years

Having just moved to the Colorado, Michael and Holly would do pretty well. The cold of the rockies would greatly slow the pace of the undead, making maneuvering around them much easier, and in winter completely stop them in their tracks, giving Michael a captive audience for his new stand up routine.

14. Dwight K. Schrute - several years

Everyone laughed at Dwight whenever he spoke of his survival training, or his ability to make just about anything out of beets, but not anymore. He (and his cousin Moze) are quite possibly the sole survivors of the zombie apocalypse. The oncoming assault of undead came as no surprise to him, as he'd apparently dealt with them before. These scenarios are just my personal theories, of course, but there's no doubt that they would ALL survive if only they had access to my ULTIMATE CAMOUFLAGE. Besides, buying that is a lot easier than working on cardio.

Rock Zombies

A good buddy of mine (Michael H.) recently scored some sweet concert passes that took him backstage and face to face with the one and only Nikki Sixx! (Dude! Congrats!)

He snagged a sweet picture of he and the Sixx-man, and then turned to the scientists at B'hold Designs Headquarters. Why? For the same reason ANYone would come to B'HQ with a photograph in hand... to be put thru the old zombification machine! And thusly, I present....ROCK ZOMBIES!

Remember, fellow followers of those that rise from the grave, you TOO can have images rendered corpse-like! I know what you're thinking, "How, Uncle Brett?? Tell us!!" To which I respond, "I will! Calm down!"

I Hate Being Sick...

Hey zombie fans. Sorry I haven't updated the blog for a while, but I've been fighting some kind of weird sickness bug. Headache, weakness, and a cough that at times, I thought might turn me inside out!

I guess I'm getting better, but I still have a nagging cough. Oh, and my voice sounds like puberty came back to finish the job and now I'm Barry White. (the only cool thing about this bug)

Anyway, I'm still plugging along here at B'HQ. In fact I just finished a zombie pic for a friend. He's looking it over and will get back to me with his opinion soon I'm sure.

In the meantime, don't forget! This is the interweb! There is no "closed due to illness" sign on my STOREFRONT, so in lieu of flowers, candy, or any other gifts I'm sure you're planning on sending me, just buy massive heaps of my design stuff. Because just like in the story books, the ringing sounds of virtual cash registers have magical healing powers!

Welcome to the SEVENTH installment of my Sensational Sell-ebrities Series…a blog entry dedicated specifically to those who have NO idea I exist, but whose star power would reeeeeeeally help me sell some stuff. LAST TIME, it was the beer-swilling team from Shaun of the Dead in the spotlight.

This is another 'multiple-person' entry. Who is it? Why none other than ANY of the stars from AMC's hit zombie apocalypse show, "The Walking Dead."

Ok….so why the actors from this show?

1. This show is the best thing to happen to zombies since George Romero's birth! Based on the graphic novel by the same name, "The Walking Dead" is an incredible look at life in a world where 'walkers' roam free and you have to sleep with one eye open. Spear-headed by Frank Darabont (director of The Shawshank Redemption), this show has it all….drama, excitement, horror, and amazing special FX makeup!

2. This show has EXPLODED with popularity! It's opening night was a HUGE success, and now, it's fan base is in the millions. Don't believe me? Check out THIS CLIP of the cast and crew talking about season 2 at Comicon.

Well, the company I was originally planning to work with and I parted ways a couple of months back. Bummer? Yes. End of the line? Not necessarily.

I am currently in contact with a different company that is considering my artwork! No decisions yet, but I truly hope they enjoy the samples I sent and feel they have a spot for me and my twisted zombie braaaaiiinnnnssss...

Become a Minion of B'hold Designs!

The other day I was driving thru traffic (as opposed to playing in it) when I noticed one of the vehicles ahead of me had a HUGE logo of a certain speaker system plastered in his back window. I thought "wow, he must really love that brand....or that logo...or maybe just that font."

The more I thought about it, I started remembering and trying to count all the logos I see throughout any given day....I'm not good with math, so I soon gave up and estimated the amount at "a lot."

Now, I have shirts at my STOREFRONT with my logo on them (you know the logo, right? The big circle B in the eye at the top of the page? Yep, that's the one), but unfortunately they don't seem to sell very well. There was that one guy in England I've never met that bought two of them, but seriously that's about it.

So....I figured it was time for a new logo design! Thus I introduce to you, "BE BOLD. B'HOLD!"

I personally feel this design blares out the confidence and swagger that is at the heart of B'hold Designs. Since designing it, I've been sitting back and picturing all the corporate bigwigs staring out the windows of their high rise offices...watching thousands upon thousands of devoted B'hold disciples proudly marching thru the streets. Of course, if those corporate bigwigs are in high rise skyscraper offices, they can't really see what's on their shirts anyway, but still it gives me goosebumps.

So, cruise by THE SHOP and pick up your own piece of B'hold goodness...AND, as a bonus, some styles of clothing come with their own little circle B right between the shoulder blades...so you could say I've got your back!

Come on. Kick the swooshes and sports logos to the curb and sport something that can make people stop in their tracks, look with confused wonder and utter "what the heck is that?"

Cannot Wait!!

It's been a while, but I've mentioned in the past my love for the new hit AMCTV horror/drama, THE WALKING DEAD. I have completely fallen under this programs spell because, quite frankly, it is amazing. Dramatic, frightening, horrific zombie FX....it quite literally has it all.

I've been beside myself since season 1 ended last year. With the joyous good news that season 2 had been given a green light, came also the agony inducing announcement that it would be a YEAR before we'd see it's first episode.

Well, I don't know if anyone ELSE has noticed, but the moment we've been waiting for is nearly upon us! Go HERE for a short teaser video about season 2.

Last year, the first episode was brilliantly scheduled for Halloween night. What a fantastic way to wrap up that holiday. Clouds...some light wind...the leaves blow down the street....the voices of children asking for candy echoing thru the neighborhood....and a zombie apocalypse. Bliss.

So, I ask you...well, beg really....PLEASE check out this show if you aren't familiar with it. Season 1 has been out on DVD for quite a while and is available on NETFLIX as well. It truly is the complete package of entertainment, with just enough zombie action to satisfy freaks like myself, but not too much so as to turn away the casual viewer.

OH! And what better way to get ready for THE WALKING DEAD, then to stop by the B'HOLD DESIGNS STOREFRONT and buy an obscene amount of zombie related merchandise! True, I don't sell any official WALKING DEAD memorabilia, but if you squint your eyes, tilt your head and think about that show, you might not realize how much you're spending and that would be awesome.

You may remember from an earlier post that I mentioned making several pictures of the Ghosthunters crew once upon a time. Most of these were circulated first among forum users, then amonst the TAPS crew themselves! Those were grand days of silly photoshop fun and making great contacts (Jason himself called to tell me how much he enjoyed them).

Today I was digging around in the B'hold Designs archives, miles beneath the earth's crust, and found an image that I'm not sure ever saw the light of day! It's an old image, as viewer's of the Syfy channel's hit show will be able to tell, simply by the spoofy twist on the catch phrase of one of their former members. Should I have LEFT it buried? You be the judge.

Quest for the Ultimate Design Gig...

I love movies. Back in the days before we had children, my wife and I went to movies ALL the time. She even went into labor with our first son just a few hours after watching LIAR, LIAR. (great "waterbreaker" if I ever get to meet Jim Carrey! Get it? "icebreaker" .... "waterbreaker".... childbirth....sorry).

I also love working in photoshop. Those close to me know this, and cringe whenever they give me pictures of themselves for fear I'll turn them into an Oompaloompa, one of Lady Gaga's boobs, or (of course) a zombie.

If only there were a way to combine the world of film and photoshop! Wait a second...there IS! It's the film poster (or One Sheet) design market, and I've been trying to break into it for quite a while now.

I've attached a couple of samples I worked up to send to potential clients. Both are fictional flicks straight from my noggin.

In my quest I've made some good contacts, but nobody would give me a shot, until one independent film maker came along and took a chance little ol' me.

Thanks to Ren Blood, independent film maker and creator of the film ZOMBIE ED, I had the opportunity to design not only the poster, but also the DVD art for the case and disc! Thanks Ren, for the gig! It was a blast!

And now, the quest continues, but with a new image in my portfolio!

So if your uncle Leon makes films, or you happen to go swimming at Spielberg's place twice a week, I'd appreciate it if you would spread the word of your old buddy Brett here at B'HOLD DESIGNS, and one day, when I'm accepting the Oscar for "Coolest flippin' film poster design ever" I'll give you a shout out! :)

Sensational Sell-ebrities! ... pt. 6

Happy July! I cannot believe this is my first entry of the month, but I'm currently on vacation and going thru a few job related things, so I apologize for my tardiness and hope that you haven't missed me too much....actually I hope you've missed me a ton, but not so much that you became socially non-functional and spent all your time in fetal position on your couch, watching zombie movies and chanting "B'hold Designs" over and over.

So, back to business!!

Welcome to the SIXTH installment of my Sensational Sell-ebrities Series, a blog entry dedicated specifically to those who have NO idea I exist, but whose star power would reeeeeeeally help me sell some stuff. LAST TIME, it was the butt-kicking Milla Jovovich in the spotlight.

Today, I'm featuring TWO people. Why two? Because featuring one without the other just didn't feel right. I'm talking about the fabulous, record flinging zombie killing team of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg from SHAUN OF THE DEAD!

Shaun of the Dead came out back in '04, at the infancy of what I call the "zombie renaissance" in which we currently find ourselves. So, with the inundation of all things undead (films, books, novelties, etc.) it's possible the casual zombie viewer might have forgotten about this film. HOWEVER, the true zombie freak like myself would never forget about this hilarious, touching, heart-wrenching, and horrifying look at the zombie apocalypse.

Ok....so why Simon and Nick??

These guys are great! And, like I mentioned already, the truly devoted fan of the undead will forever hold this film near and dear to his/her heart, and are no doubt, LONGING for a sequel. There will always be those at Halloween and conventions around the world dressing in short-sleeved white dress shirts and "I've got wood" shirts, while lining up for miles to get an autograph, or even just a peek at these fellas.

SO....(Robert Stack voice)....if YOU have seen "Shaun and Ed" throwing back shots at the Winchester, or if you've played video games with them into the wee hours of the morning..please tell them about your old buddy at B'hold Designs, and his wonderful, anti-zombie shirts, because the NEXT time the zombies come, there might not be any cricket bats at the ready.

You've got your EMF in my stage makeup!

I'm not all about zombies. It's true! In fact, as I stated in an EARLIER BLOG I wasn't always interested in them, so it stands to reason that I would have other interests outside the realm of the undead.

One of those interests is the Syfy show GHOST HUNTERS. Jason, Grant and crew charge into all kinds of facilities to see if they can find a real reason for the seemingly paranormal happenings going on within.

Another interest is the classic fire spitting, tongue wiggling rock band, KISS. I first started listening to this group as a young boy of 10, and finally, as an adult, had the opportunity to attend a concert a few years back. These guys flat out rock. Period.

All it took was a silly notion of combining the two, and my inability to focus on anything else and the TAPS/KISS image is born!

I've done quite a few silly pics of the GH crew over the years. Some of the cast members are aware of them and seem mildly amused. At least no one has sued me yet.

So, click it, dig it, and investigate all night and party every day!

Fresh off the slab!!

Greetings fellow zombie fans!

No doubt my long absence left you all wondering if I had keeled over from a mysterious virus and joined the ranks of the walking dead, but to the contrary! I am completely alive and well.

However, my absence WAS zombie related. I locked myself away, deep within the dark, dank laboratory located here at B'hold Designs headquarters, resurrecting more undead to share with the world.

To the left is Amy Bruni. You might recognize her from the hit Syfy show, Ghosthunters. Once upon a time I created a fun zombie image for Amy, for which she gleefully posed. Well, much time has gone by since then, and there have been such strides made in zombie technology that I felt she needed an "upgrade."

So, I present to you.....ZOMBIE AMY 2.0!!

Pet Peeve...

I'm a pretty sarcastic guy. A lot of things that others may not notice cheese me off enough to send me into a Seinfeld-style rant leaving my family rolling their eyes and finding reasons to leave the room.

Because of this I have developed a list of pet peeves. They range from restaurant situations, to the unpredictable nature of other drivers, to words themselves.

Today I'd like to focus on one particular pet peeve that really rattles me, and it happens at the supermarket.

Despite the fact that I'm sarcastic, I'm also pretty friendly. I don't usually mind when the clerk ringing up my purchases tries to strike up a conversation. Even if I'm not in the mood, I'll at least be pleasant....but it's when that clerk comments on what I'm BUYING that really puts a tack in my chair.

Now don't get me wrong. I've had a few clerks honestly ask my opinion of a product because they had been curious about it themselves....that's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about comments like "wow, you must really like this stuff."... or, "who buys these?!"..

Sometimes I take my sons to a small store in town to get some candy, just for the heck of it, and it's there I get "wow! You guys going to the movies or something?"

Usually these comments come when there are about 4,000 people directly behind me waiting to be checked out and are delivered by clerks who, judging by the volume of their voices, MUST be hard of hearing.

My youngest has an allergy to milk, so we have to buy him rice milk as that's all he can tolerate. Usually I buy them a few at a time so they'll last.

One evening when I was purchasing a few of the cartons, a teenage clerk looked at them, and then me and said "geez..you like this stuff or what?". To which I replied "it's for my son. He's allergic to regular milk."

Her voice took a 'been there, done that' tone as she began to tell me about all the people she'd known with lactose intolerance.

By this time I was pretty annoyed, so I actually interrupted her and said "My son isn't lactose intolerant. He's allergic. If he drinks cow's milk, his throat will swell shut until he can't breathe and he'll die."

A bit harsh maybe, but like I said....it's my pet peeve, and it was a bad day.

Just once I'd like to be able to buy whatever I want without being given a guilt trip, laughed at, or embarrassed by a clerk who can't mind their own business.

I don't care if I come thru a check out line with panty hose, a monkey wrench, a live chicken and a box of condoms....I should be able to do so without verbal affirmation that I'm a weirdo.

I've never been the most mature person. Intestinal gas makes me giggle. The Beavis & Butthead cartoons I watched as a college student STILL make me laugh.

I've been told many times to grow up, but really, if it hasn't happened by now I don't expect it to, and that's fine with me. I enjoy my immaturity....AND it's thru my immaturity that this new design is born!

Let's be completely honest for a moment...

We've ALL had those incredible "calls of nature" that were so gigantic or traumatic in nature that just surviving it was reason enough to share with others, right? I mean, seriously.... EVERYone, at least ONCE in their life, has looked back into the toilet and thought "I have GOT to tell someone about this!"

Sure...there are some of us that brag about such bathroom events, but MOST people do not, either because they're too embarrassed, or they have tact (something I've learned to live without).

Now, thanks to your pals at B'hold Designs, you'll have people asking YOU for the information, allowing you to brag about your bathroom exploits while using hand gestures similar to fishermen describing the one that got away.

Remember, it doesn't matter how different we are as people. On the squatter, we're all equal. So the next time you feel as if you've given birth on the porcelain throne...stop before you flush...go grab your spouse, sibling, co-worker, or stranger off the street...and point and laugh...take PICTURES if you feel like it...and know you've come one wad of TP closer to world peace.

Welcome to the FIFTH installment of my Sensational Sell-ebrities Series! A blog entry dedicated specifically to those who have NO idea I exist, but whose star power would reeeeeeeally help me sell some stuff. Last time, it was the hilarious Bill Murray in the spotlight.

Today, I'm featuring someone who has transformed traditional zombie killing into an amazing, slow motion, matrix-like art form....MILLA JOVOVICH!!

If you follow the Resident Evil films, you'll know her better as Alice...the only known human to successfully bond with the T-virus in such a way as to give her super human abilities...which comes in handy considering the zombie-infested, dried out husk that the Earth has become. No doubt you've yelled out loud while watching... "Now THERE'S someone that could really use B'hold Designs awesome Ultimate Camouflage!" I know! I've said the same thing!

Ok....so why Milla??

1. She's cool. I've seen a few "100 lb women destroying 300 lb men with kung fu" films in my day, and she's one of the few that I can watch without giggling. She makes it look possible because she's a good actress. She gives that steely-eyed look before delivering a round house, back flip, around the block kick in such a way as to make it seem possible, and that's awesome.

2. She hits two markets! Fans of the video game series, AND zombie fans alike would love to catch a stiletto upside the head from her. And if the last thing they saw before losing consciousness was one of my shirt designs, well then it would almost be worth the massive head trauma!

SO....(Robert Stack voice)....if YOU have seen Milla Jovovich blasting targets at the gun club, repelling down skyscrapers, or putting paparazzi in headlocks, approach with caution and let her know that if she'd only use my Ultimate Camouflage she'd have fewer calluses on her knuckles.

Welcome to the FOURTH installment of my Sensational Sell-ebrities Series...A blog entry dedicated specifically to those who have NO idea I exist, but whose star power would reeeeeeeally help me sell some stuff. Last time, I went on and on about the oozing cool factor of Bruce Campbell.

Today, I'm featuring someone who, a couple of years ago, would have had no impact on my targeted sales demographic, yet is a power house with a long Hollywood career. Mr. Bill Murray!

Ok....so why Bill??

1. As I said, a couple of years ago I would never have guessed he'd add his name to a zombie film, but ask anyone if they've seen ZOMBIELAND and most likely they'll say yes. THEN, 99% of those people who say yes will go on to describe their favorite part....Bill Murray's.

I, too, greatly enjoyed his surprise role in the film because I love Bill. He's one of the few comedic actors that can take a situation like a zombie apocalypse and turn it into a funny comment about being able to "walk right on" at his favorite golf course.

2. Bill is a MEGA star. For him to sport a B'hold Designs product, ESPECIALLY one that causes people to remember his part in ZOMBIELAND would create much happy happy joy joy in my bank account.

SO....(Robert Stack voice)....if YOU have seen Bill Murray running around town with a particle accelerator on his back, or eating lasagna in his favorite restaurant (that's a weak GARFIELD reference, by the way), then throw yourself at his feet, sing his praises, tell him CADDYSHACK is your favorite movie of all time and beg him to visit my website. He needs my Ultimate Camouflage to fight off those pesky zombie varmints.

Ever make extensive plans to do something? A vacation perhaps...a trip....maybe a family gathering? Did those plans ever drop down the toilet when the time came?

Most likely it wasn't anything you had done, but simply the wild card unpredictable nature of another person or even nature itself. Maybe it rained on your camping trip....maybe Uncle Leon barfed in the rental car... it could be anything.

More often than not, meticulously laid plans blow up in our faces. And so could it be when the zombies come! You might have your armored vehicle stocked with gas cans and granola bars, but if the roads are closed what do you do? Maybe you have a safe room, wired and ready to move into, but what if the power is out?

My point is there are only two things you can put on your to do list that you can count on, and I've summed it up on my new 2 STEP ZOMBIE PLAN design...

"Sensational Sell-ebrities" ..... pt. 3

Welcome to the third installment of my Sensational Sell-ebrities Series, dedicated to those who have no idea I exist, but whose star power would reeeeeeeally help me sell some stuff. Last time, the object of my customer fantasies was Mr. George Romero.

Today, I'd like to feature one of my favorite actors of all time. Most people these days know him as Sam Axe on the hit USA Network show "Burn Notice", but this guy has kicked more zombie tail than I can count.

He's none other than Mr. Bruce Campbell!!

Ok....so why Bruce??

1. This guy has been putting zombies back in the grave for years. Ever heard of "Evil Dead", or "Evil Dead 2"? How about "Army of Darkness"? His resume is quite extensive as he's had parts in the Spiderman movies, voice-overs for animations and video games and, of course, his horror films and popular tv show.

2. The man just oozes 'cool.' Only Bruce could deliver the line "Ma'am I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave the store" with such a relaxed, focused tone seconds before blasting a demon into oblivion.

3. Four-eyed fanboys like myself LOVE this guy (isn't it obvious?). They line up for days to see him in person and get his autograph, so imagine the hushed whispers as they noticed the B'hold Designs image plastered to his chest!

SO....(Robert Stack voice)....if YOU know Bruce Campbell, or happen to wash his car, clean his pool, or have ever delivered a pizza to his house....tell him you know where he could get his hands on the ultimate zombie protection gear. Sure, he may tell you that you watch too many movies and then slam the door in your face, but once that door is closed, he'll no doubt light up a cigar, cock his shotgun, go to my website and mumble out a deeply graveled "groovy."

I am loving this "Zombie Renaissance" we are going thru right now. Finally, zombies have shuffled their way into mainstream popularity. They're being featured in commercials, drawing big name celebs for films....even the American Idol kids got to dress up as the undead during their time on television this season.

But while it's great to see all the new fans, we need to acknowledge the true and faithful fans that have ALWAYS loved zombies; the fans that stood tall amid the snickering and eye-rolling upon mentioning their favorite undead flick; the fans that already had their survival kits packed...their machete's sharpened and at the ready....those that were killing undead BEFORE it was popular.

Zombie Film Review!

Allow me to begin this post by stating that I am not a professional film critic. Very often I completely miss the subtle complexities that the director or writer has painstakingly woven into his or her work. And, I'm not one for drama, or storytelling thru endless hours of mono-toned dialogue.

I like action...I like horror....I like suspense, and I especially love the hero's sacrifice in a hail of gunfire... and I got all those things in the french zombie film, THE HORDE.

Basically, a group of cops with questionable records ambush a gang of vicious thugs in a dilapidated apartment building. The ambush backfires and they find themselves captives.....and that's when the end comes. Not the end of the film....the end of the world as they know it.

Zombies (runners, not shufflers) surround the building and try to get inside, and the "cops and robbers" find the only way out is to work together.

I enjoyed this movie very much because it stepped on the gas immediately and never let up. Yes, they did catch a breather in a crazy old man's apartment, but it was only for a few minutes.

As in many zombie films, the cause of the infection is left unanswered, but for me personally, that's not a problem. In fact, I LIKE that. I feel it adds a bit of realism, in that if it happened for real....none of us would know what happened. Not knowing creates more panic and confusion which in turn, ups the fear.

And there was a LOT of gunfire, as a huge cache of insanely powerful weapons was "found" in the apt. managers closet. Typically, I don't care for "conveniences" in films about the undead, but I was able to overlook it because I'm a guy and I love to see people make that scared/confused/angry face while they blast away into the source of their impending doom.

I won't tell you which character makes the hero's sacrifice I mentioned earlier, but I will say I thought it was awesome. This one person goes head to head with waves of undead, fighting until the bitter end. I almost felt like saluting when that person was inevitably mauled to death.

There are survivors that make their way outside, where one is faced with a moral dilemma. I must say, the decision that person made surprised me.

So, to recap....I loved it. Go out and get it and check it out (it's available on netflix). I highly recommend it, but it's not in english, so if you hate subtitles then...well....forget I said anything.

Why Mr. Romero?

1. Are you kidding me? Do you seriously have to ask?? He's only the godfather of the undead! The man lives and breathes horror! Just imagine if he wore one of my zombie designs emblazoned on his chest, as he strode thru the throngs of fanboys (and girls) lining up to see him at the next big zombie jamboree! That walk from his trailer to his autograph table ALONE would result in enough sales to keep me in bubble gum and candy for years!

2. I don't really need a second reason, right?

*try to imagine this last paragraph narrated by Robert Stack, ala "Unsolved Mysteries" style.

SO....if YOU know George Romero, or play racquetball with him at the Y, or have seen him hanging around your local Dunkin' Donuts....please run up to him and beg him to visit my website, where he can find his own Ultimate Camouflage to keep his brain safely dreaming up new zombie stories for years to come!

Devastation....

By now it's possible you've probably heard about the horrific tornado that cut a path thru the middle of Joplin, Missouri. It was an incredible storm that took the lives of at least 89 people...a number that could very well rise as there are still many more people missing. The image you see is that of St. John's hospital....looks like something out of a video game, doesn't it?

Many of my friends were greatly affected by this terrible storm...one of which I haven't been able to contact. So I ask that you please pray for these people as they try to deal with their losses, grieve for their friends and family, and somehow try to move on with their lives.

This is a tricky time of year and we are quite used to tumultuous weather, but this is the most destruction seen in this city in a long, long time.

Armed Forces Day

Today we remember the brave individuals who sacrifice their time, well-being, and often their very lives to protect this great nation of ours. My own father was a career military man, serving 23 years including two abroad....one in Korea, the other in Vietnam....before retiring from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Colonel.

So to every enlisted person...be they in the air, on the ground, in the sea or on the coast....from cook to special forces...thank you. Your country is proud and grateful for all you do.

And a special thanks to my dad, who was "promoted to glory" late in 2009.....I miss you, and love you.

"Sensational Sell-ebrities"

In the short time I've been selling my designs online, I've had some WOW moments. My first sale was one. My first sale overseas was another.

Then, through the kindness of mutual friends, public events, and much crying and begging on my part, I've had WOW moments with a few celebrities.

So, which celebs have original B'hold Designs gear that they, no doubt, wear 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week?? Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson of Syfy's Ghosthunters, zombie author Max Brooks, and director Frank Darabont.

Stating this isn't meant to be any form of 'bragging'. Believe me, I'm 'small potatoes' in this design game and those guys only have the gear because I gave it to them and they were kind enough not to throw it back in my face. No, I'm stating all this to lead into a new blog series I'm calling "Sensational Sell-ebrities"... those in the public eye whom I would love to see newstand photos of wearing my stuff. Not only because it would be way awesome, but also a huge boost to my business.

So who is first to be listed as a "Sensational Sell-ebrity? None other than the lovely Jennifer Aniston (cue eye-roll from my wife).

Why Jennifer?

1. She's a super-celeb...seen and recognized by everyone. Imagine the publicity for B'hold Designs if she merely walked to the corner to mail a letter while wearing something of mine!

2. I like her! I think she's hilarious and a terrific actress. I, like many others (including my wife), loved her on the NBC hit television show FRIENDS.......and, of course, it doesn't hurt that she's very attractive.

SO....if YOU know Ms. Aniston, or if you find yourself standing behind her at Starbucks, or if you pull up next to her at a stoplight....tell her you know a four-eyed, zombie-loving designer that wants her to wear his shirt. I'm sure she'll call me up right on the spot.

"Can You Spare a Square?"

We've all been there at one time or another...stuck on the throne with no paper in sight. What do you do? What can you use?

In a crisis, we can be very resourceful and willing to use nearly ANYthing in order to free ourselves from our porcelain prison...quite often resulting in "wiper's remorse" once the deed is done.

So, are there rules for that situation? Is there a list of things you definitely should NOT use??

The answer is YES.

Now, thanks to the Wipe Scientists at B'hold Designs, a list has been compiled of items that are strictly OFF LIMITS when it comes to finishing up "your business."

Among the items on the list are some surprises, like wiper blades (don't let the name fool you), a flame thrower, and the pant leg of the person in the stall next to you.

AH! Friday the 13th! A day held in high esteem to horror fans everywhere! I don't know about anyone else, but I plan to celebrate by taking a shower, and then wrapping a towel around me while I investigate a strange noise outside.

Whatever YOU plan to do to celebrate, be sure to include Mr. Voorhees and watch a couple of installments of the film that slashed and hacked it's way into American pop culture!

Horde on aisle five!!

Remember Ralph Phillips from the old Looney Tunes? He was the youngster who had trouble listening to his teacher because he was always miles away in his imagination fighting aliens, sea monsters, or saving his parents from cannibalistic savages deep within the clutches of an unforgiving jungle.

Well, I had a Ralph Phillips moment yesterday.

My wife and I were in the local "mega store" doing our weekly stockpiling of stuff....an event she and I both loathe more than anything because the store is always crowded with people who are either sprinting, shouting, aimlessly wandering, or ignoring their obnoxious children.

As I tried to keep a mental note of what was needed for the upcoming week as well as the estimated total cost, I blew a fuse and drifted into a Ralph Phillips-like state.

I wondered what it would be like if everyone in the store...from the teenage boys dutifully helping their dads pick out last minute Mother's Day cards, to the elderly greeter, to the heavy-set woman on the motorized cart....were zombies.

How would I escape? COULD I escape? As crowded as it was I felt the only chance I would have would be to climb to the top of the shelving unit.....but what then?

The ceiling was covered with ironwork suitable for climbing, but how could I get that high? And would the duct work that snaked it's way throughout the store be strong enough to hold me if I were to try and crawl thru it? Could i get thru the skylights to safety?

As I ran scenario after scenario thru my mind an evil grin slowly split my face from ear to ear. I delighted in wondering what item I would grab as I charged thru the store dodging dozens of hungry zombies.

I thought a shopping cart would make a terrific blocker as I raced for the last bag of doritos, but knowing my luck I'd get the cart with the spinning wheel that keeps drifting to the left.

What would YOU go for first, if turned loose in a "mega store" with the undead hot on your tail? Medicine? Bottled water? Guns & ammo? Triscuits?

Here's a suggestion for the next time you find yourself throwing elbows to get to the last box of Cheerios, or stuck in the express line behind someone with 47 items....take a deep breath, and channel your inner Ralph Phillips. When the zombies really do come, you'll be glad you did.

True Story...

I'm going to switch directions from zombie/shop talk for a minute to relate something 'interesting' that happened to me waaaay back when I was a young lad. The names have been changed, but this actually happened to me one night.....all because I tried to be nice.

It was 1987 and I was a freshman in college. My girlfriend Shelly, still a senior in high school, was performing with the show choir that night in the high school auditorium. I attended in hopes of spending time with her at the party that was to follow.

Immediately after the show I met Shelly backstage. She greeted me with a big hug, kiss, and the news that she couldn't attend the party that night because she was grounded. I was disappointed and thought about going home. That's when SHE walked up.

I'm talking about Tess; a girl who had sent me flowers and love notes and found every excuse to spend time at my house (she was my mother's piano student). I can't count how many times I came downstairs for dinner only to find that my father had invited her to join us. This may not sound so bad, but I had absolutely NO interest in this girl whatsoever. I wasn't attracted to her physically, didn't find her interesting to talk to, had nothing in common with her and, considering the lengths she went to get my attention, began to think she might be a little nuts. I mean, I was no prize and NEVER led her on in ANY way, yet she was CONSTANTLY in my face, at my house, and probably outside my window (you never know)!

So here I am with my arms still tightly around Shelly, and Tess comes right up to us to say hello. I immediately thought of my father constantly telling me to be nice to her. "She's a sweet girl. Why, if I were 20 years younger, I'd give you a run for your money!" he'd say, to which I'd respond, "You wouldn't have to run, Dad."

"Hi, Tess. Are you going to the after party?"

There. I said it. I was actually kind of proud of myself for taking the high road and doing the right thing. I imagined my dad giving me an approving nod.

Tess' eyes lit up like flares. "Let me go ask my mom!!" And with that, she was gone into the crowd of people exiting the auditorium.

"That was weird," said Shelly, who knew how Fatal Attraction Tess was for me.

"SHE'S weird" I said. We turned to walk to Shelly's car where we could say our goodbyes for the night when Tess came running back to us completely out of breath.

"Mom says I can go, but only if YOU take me home!" A sickeningly hopeful smile split her face from ear to ear.

"What? I can't do that! I'm with Shelly! I may not even GO to the party! Go tell your mom I can't do it!"

"I can't. She already left."

I felt sick. I looked to Shelly for some kind of help, but she was too busy biting her lip to keep from laughing.

I sighed a deep sigh of defeat. "Ok. But I'm walking Shelly out to her car now. You're going to have to find your own way there."

"No problem" she blurted, and she skipped off into the crowd.

I walked Shelly to her car where we said our goodbyes and I left for the party about 30 minutes later.

I walked no more than 10 feet into the dimly lit dance club before I was confronted face to face by a very angry Tess.

"Where have you been?! I have to leave right now!"

"What? I just got here!"

"Well, I'm supposed to be home in 10 minutes, and now I'm going to be late and get into trouble!"

I no longer felt like being nice. "Hey! I didn't invite you here in the first place! I'll take you home but I'm going to talk to some people before I leave so just sit down!"

She marched off to an empty booth in a huff and I circulated through the crowd dancing and talking with friends.

After about twenty minutes I told Tess we could leave.

For the first few minutes of the trip (did I mention she lived 5 miles out of town?) she gave me the silent treatment which was a welcome surprise. Then things took a turn down Looney Boulevard.

"Why didn't you ask me out like you promised?"

"What?"

Her tone of voice grew stern. "You promised that day at the pizza place you would ask me out when I turned 16!"

She was referring to a day a couple years before when she cornered a couple of my friends and me, asking us if we'd ask her out when she turned 16. Not wanting to be cruel and scream "NO FREAKING WAY" in her face, we all mumbled something about it depending on whether or not we were seeing someone else when her birthday rolled around. As luck would have it, I was seeing Shelly.

"I never promised. Besides, I'm seeing someone now."

Her angry glare cut through my head like a laser and I swear the temperature in the car dropped 15 degrees.

"You lying son of a *****!"

My eyes grew wide as hers narrowed. We were now out of the city limits. No more street lights or brightly lit porches to help me feel safe. I just knew my disappearance was going to be the top story on the next segment of the evening news.

"What did you call me?"

She started screaming. "You heard me you lying mother ******! You PROMISED!!"

If only my dad could hear this sweet girl now.

I spent the last remaining miles of the trip listening to Lizzie Borden spew obscenities at me while trying to navigate my car down washboard quality dirt roads riddled with potholes, possums, and skunks.

I had never been to her house before so when she took a break from her sailor talk long enough to say "here's my driveway" I nearly squealed with glee.

Unfortunately, her driveway was about a quarter mile long and probably in worse shape than any road into Baghdad. On the way in, I lost a hubcap, but I didn't care.

I stopped the car and breathed a sigh of relief as her mother waved from the back door of their house, and then the weirdest thing happened.

In a totally non-threatening, musical tone of voice, Tess asked me in. I can only imagine my face as I looked at her in disbelief. All the rage of a woman scorned was gone, like nothing ever happened.

"Uh...no thanks. I need to get home."

"Oh come on. Just for a minute."

I imagined Rod Serling lighting up a cigarette in my back seat.

Before I knew it, her mother was at my window. "Hi, Brett! Come on in!" Her voice startled me and soon their voices united as they continued to invite me in.

With Tess' mother perched in my window, and Tess rooted to my passenger seat (not moving until I did) I felt I had no choice. So, I went in...for TWO HOURS.

I tried to leave before that, believe me. But you know how it is when someone won't let you end a conversation. You keep saying "Well, I'd better...." and they interrupt with a new topic. I kept inching toward the door, but Tess was leaning against it.

Finally, by the grace of God I was able to leave and I tore out of that driveway. Unfortunately I had forgotten how hideous it was and blew a tire. Having no spare I needed a phone to call my dad, but the closest phone was.......NO WAY! There was NO way I was going back into that house.

I started driving. The car fishtailed on those old dirt roads if I got above 25 mph, and I was sure I would destroy my wheel, but I didn't care. I would rather my father hang me out the 2nd story window of our house by my ankles for destroying my wheel than go back into the peanut gallery.

Finally, about half way home I stopped. The tire was shredded, but it looked like my wheel was intact. About 100 yards from the road was a farmhouse. It was now 1:00 a.m.

It figures that I would pick the home of the world's deepest sleeper. I POUNDED on that poor guy's door for several minutes before the light came on inside.

I called my dad and waited in my car, just sure that Tess was out there watching me. For some reason I picked THAT night to suddenly remember every ghost story I'd ever been told.

Eventually, my dad showed up and we decided to come back in the morning to change the tire.

On the way home, I leaned back and closed my eyes; glad to have the nightmare behind me. Dad asked me "So, how'd this happen?"

"Well, Dad..." I explained, "I was just trying to be nice."

Great day for America!

I don't like to talk politics, and 99% of the time won't here on this blog, UNLESS something amazing happens.....

Praise the Lord, and hats off to everyone involved in bringing down enemy #1 and mastermind of the Sept. 11 attack on the United States!! Today ALL terrorists around the world are looking over their shoulders with a new found sense of paranoia as they realize that their days are numbered.

I wish my retired military father was alive today. No doubt he'd be incredibly proud of the brave men and women in our armed forces, as are we all.
